Anjali Ray - Kalapriya at Chicago Jazz Festival 2020
Anjali has been an example of this country's rich multicultural brew retaining a strong connection to the country of her ancestors through her study of Hindustani music while studying western classical piano and creating her own jazz compositions which give voice to her own experiences. Born and raised in Chicago and India and an engineer trained at University of Illinois in Urbana, she currently works at Raytheon while raising a family in Los Angeles.
Her first album Indigo was enthusiastically praised and earned her a Grammy nomination. While being a regular at Kalapriya she provided a special set for Chicago's Jazz Festival during the pandemic with this collection of her own creations covering a range of experiences.
