Journey Through South Asia Summer Camp
Open to All Children Ages 6-10

Embark on a vibrant journey through South Asia this summer in this five-day camp for all kids ages 6-10! From the snow-capped mountains of the Himalayas to the backwaters of Kerala, we will explore different regions and discover their unique traditions through dance, music, crafts, storytelling, games, yoga, and much more. Our team of highly-qualified camp counselors and educators will provide your campers with an immersive and hands-on cultural experience with individualized attention in an intimate setting. Kalapriya’s signature summer camp was first launched in 2020 during the pandemic as a way to provide children with a safe, nurturing environment to foster creativity, connection, and collaboration.

Visual Arts Workshop
Campers will create a large-scale, collaborative mural inspired by regional South Asian artistic and cultural traditions. Their work will be exhibited during the Final Celebration on Friday.

ENRICHMENT HOUR #1
Campers will engage in any of the following activities:

Visual Arts Workshop Extension
Our educators will dive deeper into a specific South Asian region’s geography, language, culture, and art based on the mural’s design.

Field Trip to a South Asian Art Gallery
Campers will take a trip to a local art gallery to view and discuss artwork created by a local South Asian artist.

Show & Tell Fridays
Campers will bring in a South Asian artifact of their choosing and discuss its significance on the last day.

Free Play/Outdoor Time
Campers will have the opportunity for free play and to engage in some fun outdoor games from South Asia at the Chicago Women’s Park and Gardens nearby.

Dance Workshop
Campers will be taught foundational techniques of classical, folk, and Bollywood dance styles. They will also learn a short choreography to be presented at the Final Celebration on Friday.

Campers will engage in any of the following activities:

Writing & Reflections
As the day comes to a close, our educators will guide campers through engaging writing and reflection exercises to deepen their creative and cultural exploration.

Storytelling
A special guest will come by to share a few ancient and modern stories from South Asia with the campers.

Yoga & Meditation Workshop
Campers will unwind with a session of yoga and meditation to promote wellness, wellbeing, and health. 

South Asian Film Screening
Campers will dive deeper into South Asian history and culture with a screening of a movie, documentary, and short videos.

Wrap-Up Activies & Check-Out

3:00-3:30PM

This summer camp will culminate with a final celebration during the Friday session from 3:00-3:30PM at Kalapriya. Families are invited to a presentation of dance and visual art by our campers!
