  • #AfricAsia - South Asian & West African Drumming

    In Kalapriya’s newest program, students will embark on a cross-cultural journey through the dynamic and complex rhythms of South Asian and West African percussion. Students will be introduced to the various drums of both regions and learn fundamental rhythmic patterns and short songs through traditional call-and-response methods. The program will conclude with a live performance at the school.

    Grades:  5-12

  • Bollywood Dance

    Our longstanding program introduces students of all ages to the vibrant movements of Bollywood dance as seen in India’s movies. Bollywood dance and music uniquely draw upon South Asian classical and folk traditions along with global contemporary influences ranging from Hip Hop to Salsa and Flamenco! This program can include a live performance at the school at the end of the program. It can also be adapted as single-session family workshops to engage the greater school community in a fun, high-energy activity together.

  • Journey Through South Asian Dance

    Kalapriya’s signature program introduces students to various South Asian classical and folk dances including Bharatanatyam, Garba, Bhangra, and much more! Known for intricate rhythmic footwork, hand gestures, and expressive storytelling, South Asian dance has been shown to help bolster memory, pattern recognition, focus, and mind-body coordination in students of all ages and abilities. This program can include a live performance at the school at the end of the program. It can also be adapted as single-session family workshops to engage the greater school community in a fun, high-energy activity together.

  • Journey Through South Asian Stories

    Kalapriya’s early childhood program takes our youngest learners on a fascinating and fun-filled journey through South Asia. Students will learn and enact exciting traditional tales, fables, and mythology along with contemporary fiction from various regions of South Asia using classical and folk music, movement, and art. This multidisciplinary program can also be presented as an interactive live performance assembly.

  • Journey Through South Asian Theater

    Kalapriya’s theater program introduces students to creative tools and techniques from South Asian theater and empowers them to use their unique voices to highlight relevant social justice issues through acting, playwriting, and improvisation. This program can culminate with a live performance of student work and/or an original, scripted play at the school. 

    Grades:  5-12

  • Journey Through South Asian Visual Art

    Kalapriya’s new program introduces students to the vibrant world of South Asian visual art. Students will explore different traditional arts and crafts including:  Block Printing, Warli, Kalamkari, Mirror Work, Rangoli, bus art, and much more! This residency program can culminate in a student exhibition at the school. This residency program can also be adapted as single-session family workshops to engage the greater school community in creative artmaking together.

  • Yoga

    Student health, wellness, and well-being for social-emotional growth are the key goals of Kalapriya’s holistic yoga program. In addition to yoga philosophy and history, students will be taught specific breathing techniques and sequences of postures to further build strength, flexibility, concentration, and coordination. This residency program can also be adapted as single-session family workshops to engage the greater school community in a meditative and uplifting practice together.

Live Performance School Assemblies

  • Journey Through South Asian Stories

    Designed especially for early childhood and elementary school learners, Kalapriya’s signature assembly introduces South Asia’s incredibly rich culture through interactive storytelling. Our Journey Through South Asia assembly brings to life one of this region’s incredible tales, fables, and myths using classical and folk music, dance, and visual art.

  • Explorative Movement Assembly

    How much can you learn about history, culture, and tradition through a single dance movement? Kalapriya’s new assembly takes students on a highly interactive journey through dance from South Asia to many other parts of the world. Students will follow the trajectory of movements with ancient origins and examine how they have evolved into modern and contemporary dance styles such as Bollywood, Hip Hop, House, Ballet, and much more!
