Cultural Sundays

Chicago is a melting pot of many cultures and ethnicities from around the world. The dictionary definition of culture says, "the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group." The vibrant & diverse communities of Chicago create a unique culture.

The Indian subcontinent is known for its diversity and its many contributions to the world of literature, philosophy, and all the arts.  How these varied contributions are woven into the fabric of Chicago is up to each generation of citizens of Chicago.

Kalapriya’s goal is to be part of making an authentic and important contribution to this rich culture by bringing you programming that is educational, inspirational, and focused on creating a community that builds connections and shares traditions.

In 2020, at the height of the pandemic, we did our research. The product is Cultural Sundays. Our first production was a collaboration with our own new neighbor, the South Asia Institute, in hosting our trial webinar in September 2020, Early Indians: the story of our ancestors and where we came from by Mr. Tony Joseph

In the first half of 2021, we have hosted virtual events helping to give our community a nuanced and granular understanding of South Asia. Music, Mythology, Art, Dance, and Cinema. Starting in the fall, when we are all comfortable meeting in person, we will open our center on Michigan Ave to hold hybrid events, creating an environment to enrich community connections.
