JOB SUMMARY
Kalapriya is seeking an enthusiastic and experienced director to lead our "Journey Through South Asia" summer camp and late day programs scheduled from July 8 to August 2. The camp is designed to immerse children ages 4 and above in the rich cultural tapestry of South Asia through highly interactive and engaging cultural activities including: history, language, visual art, music, dance, theater, yoga, and games. The Summer Camp Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the program to ensure a safe, educational, and fun experience for campers.
Summer Camp Hours: 8:30AM to 12:00PM
Late Day Hours: 12:00PM to 3:30PM

RESPONSIBILITIES
Develop and implement a comprehensive and developmentally appropriate curriculum that explores the diverse cultures, traditions, and customs of South Asia.
Plan and create a schedule of daily activities, games, and art projects that align with the camp's theme and objectives.
Lead a team of two interns, teaching artists, and support staff by providing guidance, training, and supervision as needed.
Create a positive and inclusive camp environment where campers and camp staff feel valued, respected, and safe.
Manage day-to-day operations, including attendance, scheduling, food, beverage, and communication with parents/guardians.
Ensure compliance with all safety regulations and protocols, including emergency procedures and first aid/CPR training.
Foster a sense of community and teamwork among campers and staff through team-building exercises and group activities.
Collaborate with Kalapriya administrators, teaching artists, and interns to coordinate special events, field trips, and guest speakers and assist with marketing and outreach initiatives
Communicate regularly with parents/guardians regarding camp activities, updates, and any concerns or issues that may arise.
Effectively manage summer camp budget, monitor expenditures, and assist with bookkeeping.
Formally evaluate program efficacy and pivot as needed to meet the needs and interests of campers.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in education, recreation, child development, or a related field preferred.
Previous experience working with children in a camp or educational setting with at least 1-2 years of leadership experience.
Knowledge of South Asian cultures, languages, and traditions strongly preferred.
Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask and prioritize responsibilities effectively.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with staff, campers, and parents/guardians.
Current certification in CPR and first aid preferred.
Must pass a background check and provide references upon request.
CAMP SCHEDULE
This engagement will be executed in three phases between June 17 and August 9, 2024 as follows:
Phase 1 – Initial Program Design & Development
Duration: June 17 to July 3, 2024
Schedule: 3 days/week
Hours: Approximately 15 hours/weekPhase 2 – Program Implementation
Duration: July 8 to August 2, 2024
Schedule: 5 days/week (Monday through Friday)
Hours: 8:00AM to 4:00PMPhase 3 – Post-Program Evaluation & Reporting
Duration: August 5 to August 9, 2024
Schedule: 3 days/week
Hours: Approximately 15.0 hours/week
