Paul Cotton

Percussion Teaching Artist

Paul Cotton is a principal musician with Muntu Dance Theatre of Chicago.  For over a decade, Paul has studied West African, Afro Cuban, and Afro Caribbean drums and percussions.  He attended the American Conservatory of Music, where he studied classical percussions, music theory and jazz.  He has worked in all genres of music from Blues, Pop Rock, Jazz, Afro Caribbean and Gospel.  Paul has had extensive touring engagements throughout the United States, Europe, & West Africa.  Studio work include Hannibal Peterson & Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Otis Clay Blues singer, Tyrone Davis R&B singer, “Artistics” R&B group, Pilgrim Jubilee Gospel singers, Maggie Brown, and Don Moye’ Sun Percussion Summit.  He currently works with Keith Eric & Waterhouse Reggae & Calypso Band, Picate Latin Jazz Band, Nyah Binghi Drum Choir, Bata Eca, & Eye Plus One.  He serves as a teacher with many of the public schools and organizations in the Chicagoland area.  Paul believes that from you heart you can transform the art of music to your hands.
